Games FAQ
You can reach me using the contact form provided in the navigation links.
- Why isn't such and such available here, it's one of the best games on the net?!
- Three possibilities. A) It's not here by request of the author/copyright holder. B) The game isn't free. C) I simply haven't added it yet. Use the contact form to let me know about the game, and if it's cool/free I'll post it.
- When I click to play this game, it doesn't work. Is it broken?
- Unlikely. Odds are your web browser isn't equipped with the correct plugins, or it needs an updated version of the plugins. The vast majority of the games on gtds.net require the Macromedia Flash plugin. Some may even require Shockwave or Java, though at the time of this writing none do. Learn how to to install plug-ins here.
- I'm on 56k dial up and these games take forever to load, what I can do about it?
- Games are stored in your browser's cache, like every other webpage you look at. Once you load a page with a game on it, the game file is saved in a folder on your computer (called the cache). If you reload that page later on it should load very quickly. If it doesn't, your browser's cache might have been cleared, but more likely it's probably run out of space. Learn how to increase your browser's cache size here.
- I have a website or blog, can I link to these games?
- Yes. Bandwidth isn't free, so hotlinking to the actual game files hosted here is not allowed. However, if you want to have some games available on your website or blog, check out our easy to setup RSS feed, which automatically updates your site daily with links to the newest games added.
- Will you trade links with me?
- Yes and No. Is your site related to games? Does it have lots of good content? Is it more than 2 months old? If you answered yes to all of the above, odds are I will. Email me, girrrrrl! (or boy)
- This website looks funny, I don't think it's displaying correctly.
- Games that don't suck should display properly on screen resolutions at or above 800x600. Below that you may run into horizontal scrolling and other unpleasant obstacles to viewing. This site is run purely as a hobby, and I don't have the time to bother worrying about this site displaying properly for the couple people that are still using computers from 1993. It should display properly on all web browsers, assuming you're using a version of the browser released in the last 5-6 years. If you need a better browser, I recommend you get the Firefox web browser free here (the best browser I've ever used).
- Can I copy your writings and put it on my website/homework/fridge?
- Probably. Give me credit (don't pass it off as your own) and you're not likely to hear complaints from me. If you quote/mention/use part or all of an article somewhere cool, I'd be interested to hear about it.
- My game is hosted here on your site and I didn't give you permission!
- I used to contact the game creators (assuming I could find their email) to request permission to showcase their game(s) on GTDS.net (with proper credits given and links of course). I don't do that anymore for a couple reasons. 1) I sent out about 40 emails when I started this site and only ever got responses from 3 of them, one of which came a month after I emailed. All of the responses were basically "Yea sure go ahead. Just give me credit." 2) It's alot less spam (and wasted time) for the one person who doesn't want their game hosted to email me, than for me to email 150 people who don't really care. From having their creations featured here, game authors gain A) free exposure to an audience looking for games, in an annoyance free environment, B) valuable backlinks to their website. At the time of this writing, there has never been a single advertisement on this site: no popups, no banner ads, nothing of the sort - just the best free games on the web. If you're an author/copyright holder of one of these games and you decide you don't want your game(s) hosted on gtds.net, just drop me an email and they'll be removed promptly.
- I keep clicking a link on your website but nothing happens. What's wrong?
- This website uses pop up windows in a few places to display information about what you just clicked. For instance if you click "email this game to a friend", a form to send the email will show up in a popup window. When you submit a comment on a game, a popup window will let you know if it worked. If you have a popup blocker it may be interpreting this request as unwanted ads trying to display. Turn off your popup blocking software and try again, or if your software has the option, mark this site to always allow popups.
- Can I have permission to put these games on my website?
- I don't create these games. Ask the authors/copyright holders themselves, they're specified and linked on every game (assuming I could find a web presence connected to the author).
