Perhaps what the child of orthello and risk might be like, Proximity is a fun little strategy game. Best of all it doesn't take 3 hours to finish a game. Place your armies strategically to beat as many of the enemy as possible, gaining their armies.
Protect your high army spots with small ones.
It's an interesting hybrid of orthello and risk. There are some modifications that would give the game a better replay value. It'd be nice to see more options, specifically some different map designs. Multiple opponents would add more depth to the game, and it would be nice to be able to choose smarter AI for the computers. Difficulty levels would help also, so you could choose to play against an opponent that gets a higher or lower average chip draw than you. Beating the computer as the game stands now is too easy. A high score option would be a nice touch. All in all, a very solid concept with alot of potential.
